As we all see, social media takes a very big place in our lives nowadays. It impact many things such as policy, business, education and ... so on. In this article, I'll not talk abut advantages or disadvantages, I'll just talk in different perspective generally.
Social Media and Policy: Site Pew (The Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project) Reported that "social networking encourages political activity among the young population". It's happening in different places in the world, specially in the middle eastern countries such as Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Syria and other countries.
Social Media and Business: Now, it became very easy to anyone to promote for his product or business by using such websites like facebook freely.
Social Media and Education: Many teenagers got a lot of benefits only by participating in social media. They are getting used to use the advanced technology. It helps them to improve their writing skills. They can find many solutions for their own issues.

I agree with what you have said especially at the part where social media affect the political field, in fact now social media websites such as Facebook consider as a massive power against the politician, and as you referred in Middle East the weapons were only coming through the social media websites.

I've experienced social networks affecting all kinds of political views it even helped a whole nation to take down its dictator regime, it happened in my very own country "Egypt" facebook and twitter is the way people convince,plan and decide how to revolt against the regime,... and it was huge victory for us the people of Egypt at the end of the day,.. so who can disagree about how social media affects a huge part of every single persons life even if they're not using it personally but most of the community is .
