Nearly 17 years ago, the New Yorker ran what is probably still the best-known cartoon about the World Wide Web. It featured two dogs sat at a computer, with one pawing the keyboard while saying to his chum, "On the internet, nobody knows you're a dog."

The notion that the internet is full of barefaced liars remains a popular one. And with good reason: dating sites allow Devito-esque men to pass themselves off as Schwarzenegger, while teens on MySpace Photoshop away their acne. And then there are the internet predators, such as Peter Chapman, convicted this month for murdering Ashleigh Hall, a 17-year-old girl he befriended online.

But for all the horror stories, there remains little hard evidence of how far the 700 million-plus users of MySpace, Facebook and other social-networking sites adopt a different persona online. So Mitja Back, a psychologist at Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz, set out to get some. And he eventually found that internet profiles are more truthful than you might think.

Back and his colleagues got 236 American and German students with Facebook accounts to fill in personality questionnaires that gave a picture of their openness, extroversion and other traits. Independent observers then scrutinized the respondents' Facebook pages, nosing through the photos, the messages and the listed interests. And they found a remarkable degree of overlap between how students projected themselves on the internet and how they saw themselves in real life. Outgoing teenagers didn't pretend to be sullen online; introverts didn't pose as the life and soul of the party.

Two caveats should be made here. Back and his team only surveyed those between 17 and 22 years old, and were purely interested in broad personal characteristics. But for Back, the study suggests people behave more honestly online than they are given credit for. Which is something to think about, next time you come across a Facebook page for an old friend who appears to have made a million and kept all their hair.

                                                             Internet is the power of freedom that anyone can express about anything. It is no wonder government and organization fear the internet and its ability to make the truth knows. There is no rule that you have to believe what is on the internet or no one is forcing you to believe but, still people are believe in internet information either it is false or true because that standard of the internet, usage, values, calculation ,speed is very high and contrast .

                                                it can make a truth to lie or lie to truth for instant, "recently I brought a new SAMSUNG wave2 phone after 1 week of usage am not happy with the operating system  because of bugs and errors .so I was looking for a firmware update which known as a bada 2.0 actually I want to know when it was going to release officially in the market or via Air and I found many articles  about the releasing date which exactly point releasing date was 1st week of July since until today I didn't get even a beta version of it  but today bada forum was informed me that they are going to release the official new firmware update coming this September and they said other articles about releasing dates are not true. "

                                                   according to internet society internet is a power full weapon of an information as reader we have search more and more to confirm about the information whether data which supplied by world wide web is true or not. if a reader need a truth information about the topic he searching he have to be in critical minded to find it however he search with a critical thinking process he will find the correct information But the power of the Internet is like a two-edged sword. It can also deliver misinformation and uncorroborated opinion with equal ease. The thoughtful and the thoughtless co-exist side by side in the Internets electronic universe, reader is the ruler and ruler is the looser.

We agree all that Internet is a very huge source of information; however, it can’t be trustful in all cases. Internet is not always a source of truth. In the internet world, everyone can write, post, publish and comment regardless of their knowledge and their beliefs. So, definitely it can’t be always trustful. At the same time, anyone can sometimes edit some published information just according to his ideology and belief. It sounds strange, yet this is one of the disadvantages of Internet since that freedom is the cornerstone of the Internet. For instance, we notice sometimes a lot of fake information and news on some websites. We notice regularly many of rumors around the world. So, we can’t say that internet is believable always.

Therefore, we should make sure of anything that we read or see before we believe in. For example, we should check more than two website to come up with a trustful information or news.

Evaluating Information on the Web

Anyone can have a computer and Internet access then create a Web site. There for the safety of the information’s that you are getting from this website belong to that person who credit the website not a company or organization or anything. So the owner of the website can control any information’s or anything in the website.

There are some point a normal website should have it or avoid it.

Like the website should provide the base of the source or from where did he get the information so the visitor can understand it is taken from where.

Update the website the owner of the website update it, it will look more trusted than others who had long time to update their information.

Update is different from one to another, for example for medical should update weekly, news should update Daley.

Many  mistaken happen but one mistake all website owner should be aware of it. Is spelling errors. Or videos and sound clips.

To be honest with you, I hardly check any website that I visit in internet if it is trusted or not.

But one thinks I know and I am sure about it. Is I cannot trust the internet for any information.

From my experience any one can just go and writ something in the internet, but it dose not mean is the truth,

internet is not believable!!

internet nowadays became one of the most important resources of information, but the problem is sometimes it is hard to identify whats true and whats false since everyone has the power to axes internet and spread any kind of information they want under a fake professional name.


that is why i never relay on one website or online page to read the latest news.. whether it is about the world or about celebrities and ...etc


for example recently i heard about the death of the talented singer Amy Wine-house. i saw this information on a online news page, i had to make sure that it is the truth before i start telling my friends about it... i had to make sure that am not spreading a rumors.. so i went to three other websites and i even looked for videos on YouTube that might have more proves of her death.


but there is some news that you cant really be sure about. for example Will Smith is one of my favorite actors he is married with four kids. i read a rumor online that says that he is homosexual. i was really surprised because there is nothing that proves this rumor. people kept spreading this rumor and it is everywhere now online. what surprises me is that there is no prove what so ever and still people kept talking about it. in the end Mrs. Smith decided that it is about time for everything to be cleared up so she said her husband and she are happily married.
that did not have any effect on the public and people still kept spreading that rumor. 


these kind of rumors are the cause of Wars, social problems and sucidal attempts by teenagers... these rumors have the power to truly effect people that are being teased and judged by these rumors about them.


i recently read a book called 13 reasons why. it is about this teenage girl that kills her self because of all these rumors about her, she was judged and she felt there was no one who actually wanted to know the truth, she felt like everyone in her school found it more fun to say bad things behind her back. this is a really heart breaking story and i really learned a lot from it.


i guess in our society people like to believe bad things and rumors about people than to actually find out the actual truth and what is good about people because we all like when we give that news that surprises everyone and then people start talking and discussing about it over and over again.


so in general i think if you want to find out what is true and what is not don't relay on one website or on the internet only but ask, search and look for truth before you start spreading the news because it is people you are talking about.

Nowadays everyone is able to publish his words online, and we often see a lot of information and news in different websites, some of them are true and some are lie.

As an internet user of course I don’t trust everything online, but on the other hand I do believe a lot of websites, for example if I’m looking for a recent news, I usually go to a famous newspaper’s official site, or a famous news channel website, which became so easy to get to the official sites of them, so from these official websites I can get real information. Also there are plenty of websites which give the users fake information, especially when it comes to selling products, they give you fake information to get you buy their products, and in many cases it might be so dangerous for people.

Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia on internet, which you can find a huge number of articles about almost everything, so it consider as an important reference for anyone, but at the same time no one can believe everything on this website, because it can be edited by everyone, so some time there are some people who try to mislead others by posting a fake information, so when any one wants to get information from this website he must be careful and he should see the references of the article he read.

At the end, this is a websites which any one can check from them about any information he got from other websites, all you have to do is to search about your subject, if you found nothing you can contact with them to make them look for the true answer by consulting a specialist for you.

Be cautious of the site you are reading

 Internet is the greatest invention which provides lots of information about news, social media, education, historical events and so on that cannot be expressed by words. There is no such information that we don’t get from the internet and this is the main thing which makes the internet more popular day by day. But the thing is from the source we are taking our information is it legitimate or not. Nowadays it is not a big deal for anyone to change the information and publishing the wrong information. Anyone who has the basic skills of computer operating is able to post an article, although the article is full of wrong information it does not matter (Example: Wikipedia, blogs, face book promotion ads etc). Because of small numbers of officially authorized issues (outside copyright law) are leading the web.

From my experience, I don’t prefer to take what is on internet as truth. Before taking any information from the internet I always do research more than three sources on the web which help me to come up with a clear concept about my research topic. But Most of the people have tendency to believe what they see in the internet. I have seen most of the people especially students for their assignment purposes, whatever is written on internet they just do copy and paste without thinking anything.  They don’t even think also the site information is accurate or not.

Recently, my friend did a research about some exercise centers.  She visited one of those exercise centers just because she wanted to see whether there service good or not. After visiting there, she realized 60% information that they posted in their website it’s not true.

Therefore I would like to say that, before taking any information from any website, we have to be cautious about the site that we are reading and be sure to acquire information from reliable sources like official websites. Most important thing, we should use our common sense before stating something that we got from internet as a fact. So that, making the right decisions, we should have the right information.

Are Bloggers Journalists

I researched this week topic but I couldn't get a specific topics talking about this matter, our generation have reach a high stage of using Internet and Web until it became their media! or in other words "free media" as they can freely express their ideas without anyone affecting their beliefs, and since we all now believe that Internet have a major affection on people now days they find bloging is the most efficient way to deliver their message, just like any journalist, and since the journalists basically document "create reports as a profession for broadcast or publication in mass media" Then blogers are also journalist except they use Internet as there media

In this life style everyone knows what is the means of blogging “A blog (a blend of the term web log) is a type of website or part of a website. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.” 

 


                         As well we know what is the meaning of journalism “Journalism is the practice of investigation and reporting of events, issues and trends to a broad audience. Though there are many variations of journalism, the ideal is to inform the citizenry. Along with covering organizations and institutions such as government and business, journalism also covers cultural aspects of society such as arts and entertainment. The field includes editing, photojournalism, and documentary.” We can see there is clear different between blogging and journalism but, all over the year a question keep coming to us that does blog inventing journalism or not.

In recent weeks, the debate regarding the differences between blogging and journalism has re-emerged. A now-infamous blog post by Jolie O’Dell, which touched on her ideas on the distinctions between blogging and journalism, has sparked a good deal of discussion in the blogging community about what the two disciplines have in common. The debate essentially boils down to a larger question of identity for bloggers. Is a blogger a journalist? Is there a sharp distinction between the two disciplines, or has time blurred that line to an extent? Everyone from Ms. O’Dell, to our own Alex Wilhelm and Martin Bryant, to traditional media sources have weighed in on the issue. 

“In an exclusive interview with TNW, David S. Broder, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post White House Correspondent, highlighted the lingering issues with the blogosphere in an interview, saying that “You can’t just sit on your computer all day. You need to get off your butt, go out there and interview sources, investigate the issue yourself and then write what you’ve learned.””

As David said yeah he is right sitting in front of computer and publishing some unprofessional or illegal work won’t make you is a journalist so, you have to browse more outer world to achieve the truth or fact of the story and to be a professional and illegal journalist since, according to this current world  situation journalism stand by internet via air all over the world for instance,“ Monday’s revelation that a single analyst (Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray) asserted that an Apple television is on the cards for 2012, and many blogs jumped on the story, neglecting the fact that the same analyst made the exact same prediction at the exact same time last year. The unfortunate reality of the short news cycle is that bloggers sometimes have to take a flying leap onto a story to get it out there.”  According to example we can clearly define most of the readers are walk with internet so, they follows the unprofessional and fabrication information and believing them and their voice is rising for their words then, the truth is blog is inventing the journalism because people choose the wrong path to find the information until now the journalism track is upside down. Since there in another angle there are plenty of trusty bloggers that you can find via air that you can find truth of the journalism and specialized works in the field so completely we can’t say the journalism is not connect with blog, its connected more than 50% but that percentage is full of untruth works so, until people choose their correct path Is debate won’t end and blog will invent journalism…………..
